This Week’s Highlights

Speaker: Rotarian Jens Hamester
Topic: The Rotary Foundation

Rtn Jens has been the Chair of our Rotary Foundation program for a while now, and has kindly agreed to share his insight on how the foundation works, what areas it is supporting, and how we as individuals can contribute to its causes.

The focus areas of the foundation are as follows:
- Promoting peace,
- Fighting disease,
- Providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene,
- Saving mothers and children,
- Supporting education,
- Growing local economies.

Rotary clubs may get actively involved in projects supporting these causes by applying for global or district grants. One of the unique advantages of the Rotary Foundation is that its administrative costs are very low, meaning most of the money actually goes to those who need it.

Jens also showed us how to become of a part of reaching our goals in these areas: save a coffee per week – instead of going to Starbucks once or several times a week, save the money and donate it to the Rotary Foundation. Each Rotarian should contribute USD 100 per year. And to those who would like to go further: for USD 1,000 in one year, a Rotarian is awarded the Paul Harris Fellow recognition.

More information can be found at https://www.rotary.org/en/about-rotary/rotary-foundation.

Also, create your own Rotary account at https://my.rotary.org/en, and learn how to contribute, get involved, and donate.
